Benito Jones's NFL Journey
Benito Jones has had an exciting career in the NFL, playing for two different teams. He started his professional journey with the Miami Dolphins.
First Time with the Miami Dolphins
After finishing his college football career at Ole Miss, Benito Jones joined the Miami Dolphins in April 2020. He was signed as an undrafted free agent, which means he wasn't chosen in the main NFL draft but was still picked up by a team.
During his first year in 2020, he played in 6 games. He spent some time on the team's practice squad, which is like a training team. Players on the practice squad can be moved to the main team when needed. He made one tackle during his rookie season. In 2021, he was again part of the Dolphins' practice squad. He was re-signed by the Dolphins in April 2022 but was later waived, meaning the team let him go.
Playing for the Detroit Lions
Right after leaving the Dolphins in August 2022, Benito Jones was picked up by the Detroit Lions. He quickly became an important part of their defense.
In the 2022-23 season, he played in all 17 regular season games for the Lions. Even though he didn't start any games, he was on the field for about 27% of the team's defensive plays. He recorded 1.5 sacks and 16 tackles.
The 2023-24 season was even bigger for Jones. He played in all 17 regular season games again, but this time he started in 15 of them! He played much more, taking part in 52% of the Lions' defensive plays. He made 26 tackles and had 1 sack. He also got to play in the NFL playoffs for the first time, appearing in 3 games.
Returning to the Miami Dolphins
In March 2024, Benito Jones signed with the Miami Dolphins again, returning to the team where he started his NFL career. He had a strong season, playing in all 17 games and starting 15 of them. He made 24 tackles for the Dolphins.
He re-signed with the Dolphins in March 2025, showing he will continue to be a key player for them. Throughout his career, Benito Jones has shown great skill as a nose tackle, making 68 total tackles and 2.5 sacks.
