Benitoa is a special kind of flowering plant that belongs to the daisy family, called Asteraceae. There is only one species in the Benitoa group, and it's known as Benitoa occidentalis. People usually just call it benitoa. Sometimes, scientists have also called it Lessingia occidentalis because it was once thought to be part of the Lessingia group.
This unique plant is only found in California, which means it is endemic to that state. Most of the benitoa plants grow in San Benito County. This county is even where the plant gets its name! You can also find smaller groups of benitoa in nearby areas like Fresno and Monterey Counties.
