Benton is a town in Louisiana, located in Bossier Parish. It is the main city, also called the parish seat, for Bossier Parish. In 2020, about 2,048 people lived in Benton. The town is named after Thomas Hart Benton. He was an important U.S. Senator from Missouri in the 1800s. He was also a friend of U.S. President Andrew Jackson.

A Look at Benton's Past
On April 3, 1999, a very strong tornado hit parts of Benton. This powerful storm caused a lot of damage. Sadly, six people lost their lives, and 90 others were injured. Many homes and a mobile home park were destroyed. Areas like Haymeadow Trailer Park and Palmetto Park were badly affected. The population around Cypress Lake grew a lot between 2004 and 2008.
