The Bergantes is a short river located in Spain. It flows through parts of the Valencian Community and Aragon. This river begins in the el Ports area, which is in Castellón province.
The Bergantes River is unique because it is the only river in the Valencian Community that connects to the large Ebro river system. It starts about 12.5 kilometers (7.8 miles) southeast of the town of Morella.
Where does the Bergantes River flow?
The Bergantes River is about 60 kilometers (37 miles) long. Even though it's not very long, it can have a strong flow, especially in winter. This happens because of heavy rain in the mountains where the river starts.
Two other rivers, the Cantavieja and the Calders, join the Bergantes. These two rivers begin in Teruel province. They meet the Bergantes near a small town called Forcall.
The Bergantes River eventually joins the Guadalope River. This meeting point is just before a large water storage area called a reservoir near Calanda.
What animals and plants live in the Bergantes River?
The Bergantes River is home to many different kinds of plants and animals. It has a rich and varied natural environment.
Some of the animals you might find living in or near the river include trout, crayfish, and even otters. These creatures depend on the river's clean water and healthy surroundings to survive.
