History of Bergdietikon

Bergdietikon was once part of a larger town called Dietikon. Both were in a Swiss region known as the County of Baden. For a short time, they were part of a new area called the Canton of Baden.

In 1803, a big change happened. The Canton of Baden was broken up. The town of Dietikon was split into two parts. The mountain villages in the west became the "Mountain municipality of Dietikon." In 1840, this part was officially renamed Bergdietikon.

Dietikon joined the Canton of Zurich, but Bergdietikon became part of Aargau. Because this new town was made up of many small, spread-out villages with no shared history, it took a long time for a main town center to form.
