The local government, called a vogtei, was first controlled by the Habsburg family. In the 1300s, it was taken over by the Schwendauer family from Zürich. Then, in 1438, it became part of Bremgarten.

From 1415 to 1798, the village was part of the county of Baden. For a short time, from 1798 to 1803, it was part of the Canton of Baden. After 1803, it joined the Bremgarten district in the Aargau region. In 1966, the villages of Rudolfstetten and Friedlisberg officially joined together.

For religion, Catholic people in Rudolfstetten were part of the Dietikon church until 1861. Then they joined the church in Berikon. Friedlisberg stayed with the Berikon church.
