Early Career and First Successes
Bernadette started her World Cup journey in March 2008 when she was 18 years old. Her first big success in the World Cup came in March 2013 at Lenzerheide, where she finished second in a slalom race. This was her first time on the podium, which means finishing in the top three.
Just nine months later, in December 2013, she earned another podium finish, coming in third place at Courchevel. During the 2014 season, Bernadette and her sister Marlies even shared the podium twice! This happened at Courchevel and later at Kranjska Gora.
Olympic and World Championship Highlights
Bernadette represented Austria in two Winter Olympics. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, she was in fourth place after the first run of the slalom race. However, she unfortunately did not finish the second run. In the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, she finished 7th in the slalom and 24th in the giant slalom.
She also competed in three World Ski Championships. Her best results were 9th in slalom at the 2019 Championships and 10th in slalom at the 2017 Championships.
Retirement and Personal Life
Bernadette Schild retired from professional ski racing on March 14, 2021, at the age of 31. She had a successful career with 7 World Cup podium finishes, all in slalom.
In June 2016, Bernadette married her trainer, Armin Wierer.
