Formigal, also known as Aramón Formigal-Panticosa, is a popular ski resort located in the Pyrenees mountains of northeastern Spain. It's found near the town of Sallent de Gallego in the beautiful Tena Valley, within the Huesca province of Aragon. If you're flying in, the closest international airports are in Zaragoza, Spain, and Lourdes, France.

About the Ski Resort

Formigal-Panticosa offers a huge area for skiing and snowboarding, with about 182 kilometers (113 miles) of marked ski trails, called pistes. The highest point you can reach is Tres Hombres peak, which is 2,250 meters (7,382 feet) above sea level. This means you get a big vertical drop of 740 meters (2,428 feet) for exciting descents! Most of the slopes face north and northeast, which helps keep the snow in great condition.

The main part of the resort is a town built just for skiers, located at 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) high. It has many hotels and apartments where visitors can stay. From here, an 8-seat chairlift takes people up to the slopes. Before 2004, a gondola called "El huevo" (meaning "The egg") was used for access.

The resort is spread across five different mountain valleys. These areas are called Tres Hombres (Sextas), Izas-Sarrios, Anayet, El Portalet, and "Panticosa". You can reach each valley by car or a bus service. Each valley has its own parking and service area where the chair lifts start.

In 2008, Formigal-Panticosa was chosen to host the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships. This was a big event for young, talented skiers from all over the world.
