Sallent de Gállego is a charming town in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. Its name in the local Aragonese is Sallent de Galligo or Sallén de Galligo.
This town is nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees mountains. It sits right next to the beautiful Lanuza reservoir. Sallent de Gállego is also very close to the border with France.
It is part of the Alto Gállego area, which is called a comarca in Spain. Sallent de Gállego is also the main town of the Tena Valley. Other small towns and villages that are part of this municipality include Formigal, Portalet d'Aneu, Lanuza, Escarrilla, Tramacastilla, and Sandiniés.

Exploring the Natural Landscape
The Gállego river flows right through Sallent de Gállego. Its first branch, called the Aguas Limpias river, joins the Gállego right inside the town. Both of these rivers actually start their journey within the municipality itself.
Towering Mountain Peaks
The impressive Foratata peak, which is 2,000 meters (about 6,560 feet) high, stands tall over the town. It's a famous landmark for everyone in the valley. Many other important mountains are also in this area. Some of these include Anayet, Tres Hombres, Arriel, and Balaitous. Many of these peaks are over 3,000 meters (about 9,840 feet) high!
Famous Walking Trails
The GR 11 is a long walking path that goes all the way across the Pyrenees mountains. This famous route passes right through the Sallent de Gállego area.
The Portalet Pass
The Portalet pass is also located in Sallent de Gállego. This mountain pass connects the Tena Valley in Spain with the Ossau Valley in France. It's an important link between the two countries.
Fun Winter Sports
Just a few kilometers up from Sallent de Gállego is the Formigal ski resort. This is the largest ski resort in Spain! It has many hotels and restaurants for visitors who come to enjoy the snow.

Sallent de Gállego has a climate that is a mix of an Oceanic climate and a Humid continental climate. This means it gets rain throughout the year, and it has warm summers and cold winters.
The highest temperature ever recorded here was 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F) on July 29, 1981. The lowest temperature ever recorded was -21 degrees Celsius (-5.8°F) on March 11, 1985.

Sallent de Gállego has some amazing historical places to visit.
The Church of the Assumption
The main artistic attraction in Sallent is its Gothic Church of the Assumption. This church was built in the early 1500s. Inside, it has a beautiful altarpiece made in the Plateresque style. This style is known for its very detailed decorations that look like silverwork. The church also holds a special statue of the Virgen de las Nieves, who is the town's patron saint. This church is so important that it has been declared a place of cultural interest.
Ancient Bridges and Homes
You can also see the Puente Romano, which means "Roman Bridge." Even though it's called Roman, this medieval bridge was actually built in the 16th century. It crosses the Aguas Limpias river right in the middle of the village. As you walk around the old town, you'll notice many old houses with special coats of arms carved into them. These show the history of the families who lived there.
The Mentidero Meeting Place
In the center of the village, there's a popular spot called the Mentidero. It's a large, decorated bench that opens up to the street. People still use it today as a meeting place to chat and relax.
Salvador de Basarán Church
At Formigal, there is a small church called Salvador de Basarán. It was built in the 10th century and rebuilt in 1972. This old church stands out next to the modern buildings of the ski resort.
