A Look at Bernadotte's History

The community of Bernadotte has an interesting past.

How Bernadotte Got Its Name

The community was named after a famous person named Jean Baptiste Jules Bernadotte. He was a leader from France who later became a French Marshal. What's even cooler is that he eventually became King Charles XIV of Sweden and King Charles III of Norway! He also started a royal family line called the House of Bernadotte.

Early Days of the Community

A post office was opened in Bernadotte in 1871. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1904.
