Lafayette is a small city in Nicollet County, Minnesota, United States. In 2020, about 492 people lived there. It is mostly a farming community. Lafayette is located near the larger city of New Ulm.
Lafayette is also part of the bigger Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to the economic and social life of the nearby cities of Mankato and North Mankato.

History of Lafayette
Lafayette was officially planned and marked out in 1897. It was named after a very important historical figure, Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette. He was a French general who helped the American colonists during the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).
Geography and Location
The U.S. Census Bureau says that Lafayette covers about 1.15 square miles (3.26 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The South Branch Rush River begins its journey not far from Lafayette.
Minnesota State Highway 15 is a main road that runs through the community. This highway helps connect Lafayette to other towns and cities in the area.

A Well-Known Person
Lafayette was the childhood home of a famous actress named Tippi Hedren. She is known for her roles in movies. In her book, Cats of Shambala, she mentioned that she was born in New Ulm. This is because Lafayette did not have a hospital at the time.
