Bernice Jane Orwig, born on November 24, 1976, is an amazing American water polo player. She was a talented goalkeeper who helped her team win a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics!

Early Days in Water Polo

Bernice grew up in Anaheim, California. She finished high school at Savanna High School in June 1994. It was there that she first started playing water polo. She played as the goalie for the Savanna Rebel Water Polo team. This was the start of her exciting career!

College Success and Awards

Bernice went on to play water polo for the USC. In 1999, during her senior year, she led her team to win the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship. This is a huge competition for college sports teams in the United States.

That same year, Bernice also won the Peter J. Cutino Award. This special award is given to the best female college water polo player in the country. She was recognized as a top player, earning "All-America" honors multiple times. Bernice also earned a degree in Social Studies Education from USC.

Coaching and Inspiring Others

After her playing career, Bernice became a water polo coach. In March 2005, she was chosen to be an assistant coach for the USA National Team. She also coached the Junior National Team in January 2005. This team won a gold medal at the 2005 Junior World Championships!

Bernice has also been an assistant coach for several universities. These include the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Michigan, and her old school, USC. In 2005, she joined Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California, as an assistant coach. She helped their women's water polo team win a state championship in 2009. Bernice continues to inspire young athletes with her knowledge and passion for the sport.
