Bethlehem Chapel, Richmond, is a historic church located on Church Terrace in Richmond, London. It was built in 1797. This small, one-story building has a special outer coating called stucco. It is also an important historical site, recognized as a Grade II* listed building. The chapel still has its original inside design, including the old seating (called pews) and the raised platform for the speaker (called a pulpit).
History of Bethlehem Chapel
The chapel was built by a man named John Chapman. He worked as a market gardener in Petersham. People helped pay for the church by giving money, which is like an early form of crowdfunding.
This chapel is sometimes called a "Huntington Chapel." This is because a famous preacher named William Huntington helped open it. He started or opened many chapels across England, and many of them are still standing today.
In 1846, a group from Bethlehem Chapel asked the House of Lords to support a new law. This law was about how money given to charities should be managed.
Services and Activities
Bethlehem Chapel follows traditional Christian worship and beliefs. They use the Authorised King James Version of the Bible.
