Bianna Golodryga was born on June 15, 1978. She is a well-known American news anchor and journalist. She was born in the Soviet Union, which is now Moldova.
Today, Bianna works as a co-anchor for One World on CNN International and CNN Max. Before this, she was a senior global affairs analyst for CNN. She also worked as a news and finance anchor at Yahoo! News. Many people might remember her from Good Morning America weekend shows. She also co-hosted CBS This Morning.

Early Life and Education
Bianna Golodryga was born in a town called Căușeni in Soviet Moldova. Her family was from a Jewish background. She is an only child.
When Bianna was just 18 months old, her family left the Soviet Union. They came to the United States as political refugees. They had very little money, only $150. They first lived in Galveston, Texas, then moved to Houston.
Bianna visited her birthplace only once, in 1988. She saw her grandparents and cousins there. Later that year, her grandmother moved to Houston to join them. Bianna's mother, Zhanna, is a top digital and administrative officer for a company called Phillips 66. Her father, Vitaly, was a mechanical engineer. He worked as a consultant for DuPont.
Bianna went to the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. She was interested in journalism, not acting. A play about AIDS inspired her to learn more about the world. Her teacher, Sharon Ferranti, was a big inspiration for her.
Bianna speaks Russian fluently. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2000. She studied Russian/East European and Eurasian studies. She also studied economics.
Career in Journalism
After college, Bianna first planned to work in finance. She became a licensed trader and worked for several financial companies. But after the market dropped, she decided to try journalism.
In February 2001, she moved to New York City. She started working as a producer at CNBC. Later, she became an on-air reporter there.
Rising in News
In 2004, Bianna was named one of the top journalists under 30. She worked as a correspondent for ABC from 2007 to 2010. In May 2010, she became a co-anchor for the weekend edition of Good Morning America. This happened after the previous co-anchor, Kate Snow, left.
In April 2013, Bianna was the first person to interview Anzor Tsarnaev. He was the father of the people who carried out the Boston Marathon bombings. Bianna called this "the most emotional moment" of her career. She helped her colleagues say the name correctly. She called Anzor in Chechnya. He didn't have many details. But he called her back the next day. He wanted to know if his son, Dzhokhar, was still alive after being arrested.
Bianna was a weekend co-anchor for Good Morning America until August 4, 2014. She then joined the business and finance news team at Yahoo! News. She also filled in as a host on Way Too Early. In December 2016, Bianna had a notable discussion with then-Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. He was defending Russian president Vladimir Putin. Rohrabacher was being considered for a high government position at the time. He was criticizing China for its human rights record. Bianna then asked him about Putin, whom Donald Trump often praised. Rohrabacher seemed upset and asked where she came from. Bianna replied, "I come from the former Soviet Union—that's where I came from. I came here as a political refugee." Rohrabacher then accused her of being biased.
Bianna is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She has written for the HuffPost. She was also a news and finance anchor at Yahoo!.
In 2015, Hillary Clinton wanted Bianna to do her first interview as a presidential candidate. But Hillary's staff misunderstood the name. They thought she said "Brianna" and scheduled the interview with CNN's Brianna Keilar. Bianna said, "It happens all the time that my name gets butchered. I never thought it would impede me from participating in what would be one of the biggest stories of my life."
On October 3, 2018, it was announced that Bianna would join CBS This Morning as a co-host. But on April 3, 2019, CBS News announced she had decided to leave. Later that year, CNN announced that Bianna had taken a full-time role. She became a senior global affairs analyst for CNN.
During the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis, Bianna interviewed Shah Mahmood Qureshi. He was the Pakistani Minister of Foreign Affairs. During the interview, Qureshi made comments about Israel's "connections" and "deep pockets," saying they "control media." Bianna stated several times that she found these remarks to be unfair and biased. She later explained that accusing Israel of "controlling the media" and having "deep pockets" is a problematic statement.
Awards and Recognition
Bianna Golodryga has received several awards. She won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Morning Program. She also received the Keystone Policy Center Leadership Award. The University of Texas at Austin gave her the Pro Bene Meritis Award.
Personal Life
In September 2010, Bianna married Peter R. Orszag. He is the CEO of Lazard, a financial services company. He also used to be the Director of the Office of Management and Budget during the Barack Obama administration. Bianna and Peter have a son and a daughter.
