Bianna Golodryga (born June 15, 1978) is a well-known American news anchor and journalist. She was born in the Soviet Union, which is now Moldova. Today, she works as a co-anchor for One World on CNN International and CNN Max. She has also worked for many other big news companies like ABC, CBS, and Yahoo! News.
Early life and education
Bianna Golodryga was born on June 15, 1978, in a town called Căușeni in what was then Soviet Moldova. Her family were Jews from that area. She is the only child of her parents.
When Bianna was just 18 months old, her family left the Soviet Union. They were political refugees, meaning they had to leave their home because of political reasons. They came to the United States with very little money. First, they lived in Galveston, Texas, and then moved to Houston. Bianna has only been back to her birthplace once, when she visited her grandparents and cousins in 1988.
Bianna's mother, Zhanna, works as a chief digital and administrative officer for a company called Phillips 66. Her father, Vitaly, was a mechanical engineer and a consultant.
Bianna went to the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. Even though it was an arts school, she was more interested in becoming a journalist. She was inspired by a play about AIDS that her teacher wrote. This made her want to learn more about what was happening in the world. In May 2000, Bianna graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. She studied Russian and East European history and also economics. She can speak Russian very well.
Career in Journalism
After college, Bianna first planned to work in finance. She even became a licensed trader. But after the stock market dropped, she decided to try journalism instead. In 2001, she moved to New York City. She started working as a producer at CNBC, a business news channel. Later, she became an on-air reporter there.
In 2004, Bianna was recognized as one of the top journalists under 30 years old. From 2007 to 2010, she worked as a correspondent for ABC. In May 2010, she became a co-anchor for the weekend edition of Good Morning America.
In April 2013, Bianna was the first journalist to interview Anzor Tsarnaev. He was the father of the people involved in the Boston Marathon bombing. Bianna said this was "the most emotional moment" of her career. She helped her colleagues with the correct pronunciation of the name. She called Anzor in Chechnya. He didn't have much information at first. But he called her back the next day, trying to find out more about his son.
Bianna stayed as co-anchor of Good Morning America until August 2014. Then, she moved to Yahoo! News to work on business and finance news. She also appeared on shows like Way Too Early and Morning Joe on MSNBC. In 2017, she was a guest co-anchor on CBS Morning News. She joined CBS full-time in September 2017 and also started working for CNN.

In December 2016, Bianna had an important conversation with a politician named Dana Rohrabacher. He was defending the Russian president, Vladimir Putin. Bianna asked him about Putin's record on human rights. Rohrabacher seemed surprised and asked her where she came from. Bianna replied, "I come from the former Soviet Union—that's where I came from. I came here as a political refugee." This showed her strong connection to her background.
Bianna is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. This is a group that discusses important global issues.
In 2015, there was a funny mix-up involving Bianna. Hillary Clinton wanted Bianna to do her first interview as a presidential candidate. But Hillary's staff misunderstood and thought she said "Brianna." So, another journalist named Brianna Keilar did the interview instead. Bianna said, "It happens all the time that my name gets butchered. I never thought it would stop me from being part of one of the biggest stories of my life."
On October 3, 2018, it was announced that Bianna would join CBS This Morning as a co-host. But in April 2019, she decided to leave CBS. Later that year, CNN announced that she would join them full-time. She became a senior global affairs analyst at CNN.
