Birgit Sarrap facts for kids
Birgit Sarrap, born on September 24, 1988, is a famous singer from Estonia. Many people also know her simply as Birgit. She became well-known in 2007. This happened after she won the very first season of Eesti otsib superstaari. This show is Estonia's version of the popular Idol TV series.
After winning, Birgit released her first album in 2008. It was called Birgit Õigemeel. Since then, she has released four more studio albums. Birgit also represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. She sang the song "Et uus saaks alguse" and made it to the grand final.

Birgit's Music Journey
Birgit started her musical journey at a young age. She sang in the children's choir of Estonian Television. She also learned to play the violin at Kohila Music School.
In 2007, Birgit became the first winner of Eesti otsib superstaari. This was a huge step in her career. That same year, she received a special award. It was called the Golden Olive Branch award. She was the first person not from Italy to get this award. She received it at an Italian culture festival.
Singing at Eurovision
Birgit represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. The contest took place in Malmö, Sweden. Her song was "Et uus saaks alguse", which means "So There Could Be a New Beginning".
She successfully made it through the first semi-final. She finished 10th in that round. In the grand final, Birgit placed 20th. She earned 19 points for Estonia.
Before 2013, Birgit had tried to enter Eurovision twice. She tried in 2008 and again in 2012. She didn't make it those times. However, she had been on the Eurovision stage before. In 2002, when the contest was in Tallinn, she was a choir singer during a special performance.
Birgit in Theatre
Besides singing, Birgit has also acted in professional theatre shows. In 2007, she played Sylvia in a play called Two Gentlemen of Verona. This play was written by William Shakespeare. It was directed by a famous Estonian director, Lembit Peterson. The play was performed at the Estonian theatre Theatrum.
She has also performed at the Vanemuine theatre. In 2010, she played Maria Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. She also had supporting roles in a musical called Peko in 2011. In 2016, she played Sophie in the Estonian version of Mamma Mia. In 2022, she was in "Ada", a musical about the life of Estonian actress Ada Lundver. In 2024, she performed in "Rohelised niidud". This musical was about the famous singing group, Eesti Raadio Meeskvartett. Birgit also sometimes acts with an amateur group in her hometown of Kohila.
Birgit's Family Life
Birgit is married to her manager, Indrek Sarrap. They have two children together. Their son was born in October 2013. Their daughter was born in 2016. The family lives in Tallinn, Estonia.
Birgit comes from a musical family. Her mother is a music teacher. Her father runs a furniture company. Birgit is the second youngest of four sisters. She has performed with her sisters as a singing group. They have appeared on TV shows and at local events.
