Bjursås is a small town, also called a "locality," found in the beautiful Dalarna County in Sweden. It is located within the Falun Municipality. In 2010, about 1,839 people lived in Bjursås.
This charming place is very popular, especially during winter! Many tourists, often from Stockholm, visit Bjursås for its excellent ski resort. It's a great spot to enjoy winter sports and have fun in the snow.
Bjursås has a special nickname: "The Switzerland of Dalarna." This is because of its "broken ground," which means it has lots of hills and uneven land, much like the mountainous country of Switzerland.
The name "Bjursås" also has an interesting history. The first part, "Bjur," comes from an old Norse word that means "beaver." So, if you translate the name directly into English, it means "Beaver Ridge." It makes you wonder if beavers once lived on the ridges around this area!
Many people who live in Bjursås travel to the nearby city of Falun for their jobs. Others work right in Bjursås, often in the local forest industry, which is an important part of the economy in this region of Sweden.
