Black Duck Creek is a small stream located in Osborne Township, which is part of the Nipissing District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It's an important part of the Saint Lawrence River system, meaning its water eventually flows into the famous Saint Lawrence River. This creek is a "left tributary" of the Jocko River, which means it flows into the Jocko River from the left side if you're looking downstream. The entire creek is found within the beautiful Jocko Rivers Provincial Park.
Where Does Black Duck Creek Begin?
Black Duck Creek starts in a special kind of wetland called a bog. This bog is located right next to the small community of Osborne. You can find this starting point near the Ontario Northland Railway, a railway line that runs through the area.
The Creek's Journey
From its beginning, Black Duck Creek flows south. It runs right alongside the railway tracks for a while. As it travels, two smaller streams join it from the right side. After these streams add their water, the creek changes direction and turns to flow east.
Soon, another small stream joins Black Duck Creek, this time from the left side. The creek then reaches its end, or "mouth," where it flows into the Jocko River. This happens right after the Jocko River itself flows out of its source, which is Jocko Lake.
Part of a Bigger Water System
The Jocko River, which Black Duck Creek flows into, then continues its journey. The Jocko River eventually flows into the Ottawa River. Finally, the Ottawa River carries all this water to the mighty Saint Lawrence River. This shows how Black Duck Creek, even though it's a small stream, is connected to a much larger network of rivers and lakes across Canada.
