The Jocko River is a cool river located in Nipissing District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It's part of a huge water system called the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin. This means all its water eventually flows into the Saint Lawrence River! The Jocko River is a smaller river that flows into the Ottawa River from the right side. The entire river is found inside the Jocko Rivers Provincial Park, which helps protect its natural beauty.
River's Journey
The Jocko River starts its journey at Jocko Lake. This lake is in a place called Osborne Township. There's even a small community named Jocko near the start of the lake, right by the Ontario Northland Railway tracks.
The river first flows towards the northeast. Then, it makes a turn and heads southeast. It keeps flowing in this southeast direction all the way until it reaches its end.
The Jocko River travels through a few different areas. It goes through Garrow Township and Clarkson Township. After that, it enters Jocko Township, where it flows right under Ontario Highway 63. Finally, it moves into Eddy Township. Here, another smaller river, the Little Jocko River, joins it from the right side. Soon after, the Jocko River reaches its mouth and flows into the larger Ottawa River.
Rivers Joining In
Many smaller streams and rivers flow into the Jocko River along its path. These are called tributaries. Here are some of the main ones:
- The Little Jocko River joins from the right side.
- Hanson Creek also joins from the right side.
- Water flows in from Little Sucker Lake. This lake itself gets water from Sucker Creek.
- Black Duck Creek joins the Jocko River from the left side.
