Blacksville is a town in Monongalia County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 171 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Morgantown, West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Blacksville was founded in 1829 by David Black, and named for him.
Geography
Blacksville is located at 39°43′12″N 80°12′45″W / 39.72000°N 80.21250°W (39.720036, -80.212562).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.31 square miles (0.80 km2), of which, 0.30 square miles (0.78 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.

2010 census
At the 2010 census there were 171 people, 69 households, and 46 families living in the town. The population density was 570.0 inhabitants per square mile (220.1/km2). There were 79 housing units at an average density of 263.3 per square mile (101.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.1% White and 2.9% from two or more races. Of the 69 households 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% were married couples living together, 14.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 33.3% were non-families. 24.6% of households were one person and 8.7% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.00.
The median age in the town was 35.2 years. 25.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 28.1% were from 25 to 44; 26.4% were from 45 to 64; and 12.3% were 65 or older. The gender makeup of the town was 51.5% male and 48.5% female.
Blacksville pottery
During the mid 20th century, Blacksville was well known for its pottery, made by local residents using native clay. Edgar Richardson (b. Jollytown, PA 1903 - d. 1962) taught pottery at the local high school and his beautiful pieces, signed "E.R. - Blacksville," are still being auctioned. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt visited Blacksville on June 28, 1938 to learn more about the "Blacksville pottery project."
Education
Monongalia County Schools serves Blacksville. Zoned schools include Mason Dixon Elementary School, and Clay-Battelle Middle/High School.
