A Look Back in Time
Ancient Roots
The history of the Blairmount area goes back more than 40,000 years. This land holds the rich and continuing culture of the Tharawal people, who are its traditional owners. Even today, you can find reminders of their past lives here. These include ancient rock engravings, cave paintings, grooves where they sharpened their axes, and shell middens (old piles of shells from their meals).
New Beginnings
British settlers started moving into this area in the early 1800s. They set up farms and orchards because the soil was very fertile.
In 1928, a man named Frank Young bought a property here. He named it Blairmount and turned it into a horse stud farm. He specialized in breeding strong Clydesdale horses.
Later, in the 1980s, Blairmount began to change. It was redeveloped into a housing area for people to live. A school was also opened in the suburb in 1983.
