Leading sire in Great Britain and Ireland (1762, 1764, 1770) |
Blank (1740–1770) was a famous British Thoroughbred racehorse. Even though he only won one race, he became a super successful father to many other racehorses! He was even named the top horse dad (called a "Champion sire") in Britain three times: in 1762, 1764, and 1770.
About Blank
Blank was a bay colored colt, which means he was a young male horse. He was born in 1740. His breeder was the 2nd Earl of Godolphin.
Blank's father was a famous horse named Godolphin Arabian. Godolphin Arabian was an Arabian horse and was also a "Champion sire" three times. This means he was a very important father to many fast racehorses. Some of Blank's half-brothers included Lath, Cade, and Regulus. Blank's mother was a mare (female horse) named Little Mare, also known as Amorett.
Racing Days
Blank started his racing career when he was six years old. His first race was in April 1746 at Newmarket.
Blank didn't race very often. He only won one race in his whole career. This win was a special "match race" in 1748. A match race is when only two horses race against each other. Blank raced against a horse named Cumberland over three miles at Newmarket and won!
Life as a Sire
After he stopped racing, Blank became a very successful stallion (a male horse used for breeding). He was known for being a great father to many fast racehorses. He was named the "British Champion sire" in 1762, 1764, and 1770. This means his children were winning more races than the children of any other stallion in those years.
Blank lived at a place called Grimsthorpe in Lincolnshire. Many of his children became famous racehorses too. Some of his best racing children included:
- Ancaster
- Antinous, who won important races like the Great Subscription Purse and the 1200 Guineas Stakes
- Charlotte, who won the Doncaster Cup
- Chatsworth, another Great Subscription Purse winner
- Foxhunter, who also won the 1200 Guineas Stakes
- Paymaster, who won the Jockey Club Plate
Blank also had a daughter named Rachel. Rachel became the mother of another very famous horse called Highflyer. Blank's grandchildren also did well in racing, including horses like Delpini and Goldfinder.
Blank passed away at Grimsthorpe in 1770.
