Boštjan "Boki" Nachbar, born on July 3, 1980, is a former professional basketball player from Slovenia. He was a tall forward, standing 2.06 meters (6 feet 9 inches) tall. Boštjan played for many years in both the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States and the EuroLeague in Europe. He also helped the Slovenian national basketball team achieve fourth place at the EuroBasket 2009 tournament.

Boštjan Nachbar's Basketball Journey

Starting in Europe

Boštjan Nachbar began his professional basketball career in the 1997–98 season. He joined the Olimpija Ljubljana club in Slovenia. He played in the EuroLeague, which is Europe's top basketball competition.

In the 2000–01 season, he moved to the Benetton Treviso club in Italy. He was the youngest player in the Italian League at that time. With Benetton, he helped his team reach the Final Four of the EuroLeague. He also won the Italian League championship and the Italian Supercup in 2002.

Playing in the NBA

In 2002, Boštjan was chosen by the Houston Rockets as the 15th player overall in the 2002 NBA draft. This meant he was one of the top young players picked to join an NBA team. He played for the Rockets for three seasons.

In 2004, he moved to the New Orleans Hornets. He played more minutes there and scored more points. During the 2004–05 NBA season, he scored a career-high 21 points against his old team, the Rockets. Later, he was traded to the New Jersey Nets in 2006. He became an important player for the Nets, helping them reach the Eastern Conference semifinals. His last NBA game was on April 16, 2008.

Coming Back to Europe

On July 20, 2008, Boštjan returned to Europe. He signed a big contract with the Dynamo Moscow club in Russia. He played very well in the EuroCup, which is Europe's second-highest competition.

In July 2009, he joined the Efes Pilsen team in Turkey. He played two seasons with them in the EuroLeague. After recovering from an ankle injury, he signed with the UNICS Kazan team in Russia in January 2012.

Later in July 2012, he joined Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany. He had a very successful season there. He helped his team win the Basketball Bundesliga title, which is the top German league. On July 23, 2013, Boštjan signed a two-year deal with FC Barcelona, one of the biggest clubs in Spain. He then played for Sevilla before announcing his retirement on May 14, 2018.

Playing for His Country

Boštjan Nachbar was a key member of the senior Slovenian national basketball team. He played in several major international tournaments. These included EuroBasket 2003, EuroBasket 2005, EuroBasket 2009, and EuroBasket 2013. He also represented Slovenia at the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan and the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. The EuroBasket 2013, held in his home country of Slovenia, was his last tournament with the national team.

After Playing Basketball

After retiring from playing, Boštjan Nachbar started a new role. He was hired as an international scout by the Detroit Pistons, an NBA team. This means he helps the team find talented players from other countries. He also co-hosts a podcast called Podrobnosti (which means "Details" in English) with Anže Tomić and Boštjan Gorenc.

Personal Life

Boštjan Nachbar is married and has two daughters named Tara and Ajda. His younger brother, Grega, is also involved in basketball. Grega is an assistant coach for the Premier A Slovenian Basketball League club Helios Suns.
