Boštjan Nachbar facts for kids
Boštjan "Boki" Nachbar (born July 3, 1980) is a famous former professional basketball player from Slovenia. He was a forward, standing at 2.06 meters (about 6 feet 9 inches) tall. Playing Basketball Around the World
Boštjan Nachbar had a long and successful career playing basketball for many different teams. He started playing professionally in 1997 and retired in 2017.
Starting in Europe
Boštjan began his professional journey with the Olimpija Ljubljana club in Slovenia during the 1997–98 season. He even played in the EuroLeague, which is Europe's top basketball competition. He scored about 7 points and grabbed 2 rebounds per game there.
In 2000, he joined Benetton Treviso in Italy. He was the youngest player in the Italian League at the time. With Benetton, he helped his team reach the Final Four of the EuroLeague. He improved his game, scoring 13 points and getting 4 rebounds per game. In one amazing game, he scored 28 points, making 6 three-pointers! He also won the Italian League championship and the Italian Supercup in 2002.
Playing in the NBA
In 2002, Boštjan was chosen by the Houston Rockets as the 15th player picked in the 2002 NBA draft. He played for the Rockets for three seasons. He then moved to the New Orleans Hornets in 2004. There, he averaged about 8 points in 21 minutes per game. He even scored a career-high 21 points against his old team, the Rockets!
Later, in the 2005–06 season, he was traded to the New Jersey Nets. He became an important player for the Nets, often coming off the bench to help the team. They made it to the Eastern Conference semifinals before losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers. His last NBA game was in April 2008.
Coming Back to Europe
In July 2008, Boštjan returned to Europe and signed a big contract with MBC Dynamo Moscow in Russia. He played really well, averaging 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in the EuroCup.
After that, he played for Efes Pilsen in Turkey for two years. He continued to show his skills in the EuroLeague. In 2012, he joined UNICS Kazan in Russia for a short time.
Later in 2012, he moved to Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany. This was a very successful season for him! He helped his team reach the EuroLeague Top 16 and was the second-best scorer in the EuroLeague, with 16.1 points per game. He also helped them win the Basketball Bundesliga title in Germany.
In July 2013, Boštjan signed a two-year deal with FC Barcelona in Spain, one of Europe's biggest clubs. He then played for Sevilla before announcing his retirement from playing basketball on May 14, 2018.
Playing for Slovenia
Boštjan was a key player for the senior Slovenian national basketball team. He played in several major tournaments, including:
- EuroBasket 2003
- EuroBasket 2005 (where he averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds)
- 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan
- EuroBasket 2009
- 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey
- EuroBasket 2013, which was held in his home country of Slovenia. This was his last tournament with the national team.
Life After Playing Basketball
After retiring from playing, Boštjan Nachbar became an international scout for the Detroit Pistons, an NBA team. This means he helps find talented basketball players from other countries for the team. He also co-hosts a podcast called "Podrobnosti" (which means "Details") with Anže Tomić and Boštjan Gorenc.

Boštjan is married and has two daughters named Tara and Ajda. His younger brother, Grega, is also involved in basketball as an assistant coach for the Premier A Slovenian Basketball League club Helios Suns.
