Boarnsterhim was a special area in the northern Netherlands. It was called a "municipality," which is like a local government area. This area brought together several villages and towns. Boarnsterhim existed for 30 years. It was created on January 1, 1984. It stopped being a single municipality on January 1, 2014.

When Boarnsterhim was dissolved, its land was split up. Four other municipalities took over its villages and towns. These new areas were De Friese Meren, Leeuwarden, Heerenveen, and Súdwest-Fryslân.

Boarnsterhim was found in the province of Friesland. This province is in the northern part of the Netherlands. The area covered about 168.58 square kilometers. Most of this was land, about 151.54 square kilometers. The rest was water, around 17.04 square kilometers.

In November 2013, just before it was dissolved, about 19,482 people lived in Boarnsterhim. This meant there were about 129 people living in each square kilometer of land.

Getting Around

People living in Boarnsterhim could travel by train. There were two railway stations within the municipality. These stations helped connect the villages to larger towns.
