Boccard Point is a cool mountain peak located in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It reaches an elevation of about 5,900 feet (1,800 meters) above sea level. This special spot is known for its amazing views and interesting history.

About Boccard Point

Boccard Point is a mountain summit, which means it's the highest point of a mountain. It is found within the Soda Mountain Wilderness. This wilderness area was officially created in 2009 by the United States Congress. It is now looked after by the Bureau of Land Management, a government agency that manages public lands.

A Place Full of Life

The Soda Mountain Wilderness is a very special place. It has a huge variety of living things, like plants and animals, which is called biological diversity. It also has many different types of rocks and landforms, known as geological diversity. This area is unique because it sits where Oregon's eastern deserts meet the tall, mountainous fir forests.

Boccard Point and the wilderness around it are located southeast of the cities of Medford and Ashland. It's a great example of how different natural environments can come together.

Exploring the Trails

For a while, the path leading to Boccard Point was hard to use. The old road had been closed and was falling apart. But in 2014, a group called the Siskiyou Mountain Club stepped in. This nonprofit organization worked hard to fix and restore the trail. Now, it's much easier for people to visit and enjoy Boccard Point.

How Boccard Point Got Its Name

This mountain was named after an American biologist and environmentalist named Bruce Boccard. A biologist studies living things, and an environmentalist works to protect nature. Bruce Boccard loved this spot on the mountain. He even called it "Juniper Ridge."

In 1997, a group called the United States Board on Geographic Names officially approved naming the point in his honor. This board is responsible for naming places in the United States. So, Boccard Point is a lasting tribute to someone who cared deeply about nature.
