Boignée (which is Bougnî in the local Walloon language) is a small village in Belgium. It is located in a region called Wallonia. Boignée is part of a larger area known as the municipality of Sombreffe. This area is found within the province of Namur.
Before 1977, Boignée was its own separate municipality. This means it had its own local government. However, in 1977, many smaller towns in Belgium joined together. Boignée became a district, or ancienne commune, of Sombreffe. The village is situated near the Ligny River.
History of Boignée
Boignée has an interesting history, especially linked to a famous battle. On June 16, 1815, the village played a role in the Battle of Ligny. During this important battle, the Prussian army used Boignée as a strong point. They defended the village against their enemies. This battle was a significant event in European history.
