The Bolton Green Historic District is a special area in Bolton, Connecticut. It includes the historic town green, known as Bolton Green, and many old buildings around it. This district is important because it shows how the town looked and grew over time. In 2001, the green and its surrounding buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized for their historical importance.
The district covers nine buildings, one site, four structures, and two objects. All of these add to the area's history. The district stretches about 500 yards (457 meters) east from the green along Bolton Center Road.

What is Bolton Green?
Bolton Green is the main part of the historic district. It is a triangular-shaped grassy area. You can find it where Bolton Center Road and Hebron Road meet. The green is well-kept and surrounded by roads and trees.
Memorials and Public Space
The green has two important war memorials. These memorials honor soldiers from World War I and World War II. They also remember those who served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. A flagpole stands between these memorials. Bolton Green is still used today as a public space. People use it for town events and to remember important moments.
Historic Buildings Around the Green
Many interesting old buildings are found around Bolton Green. These buildings tell stories about the town's past.
Oldest Buildings
The oldest buildings near the Green are the former tavern and the Bolton General Store. These places have been around for a long time. They show what life was like in early Bolton.
Bolton Congregational Church
The most noticeable building around the Green is the Bolton Congregational Church. It was built in 1818. This church has a special design called Greek Revival architecture. It features a unique box-shaped spire at the top.
Other Important Properties
Other properties in the district also have historical value.
- A house built in the 1840s faces the green on the east side.
- A new ranch house stands where an older 1870s house once was. The old house was destroyed by fire.
- The Brick Tavern is another historic spot.
- The site of Bolton's first post office is also part of the district.

Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route
An important historical path, the Washington–Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail, goes right through the Bolton Green historic district. This route marks the path taken by American and French forces during the American Revolutionary War.
