Bonifay is a city located in Holmes County, Florida, in the United States. It is the main town, also known as the county seat, of Holmes County. In 2020, about 2,759 people lived there.

History of Bonifay
Bonifay was started in 1882. This happened when the Pensacola and Atlantic Railroad built its tracks through the Florida Panhandle. The city was named by W. D. Chipley, an executive from the railroad company. He named it after Frank Bonifay, whose family had a brick factory in Pensacola. Frank Bonifay also invested in the railroad.

Bonifay is in the southeastern part of Holmes County. Its exact location is 30°47′N 85°41′W / 30.783°N 85.683°W.
Major Roads in Bonifay
U.S. Route 90 goes through the southern part of downtown Bonifay. It connects to Chipley (9 miles east) and Caryville (8 miles west).
Interstate 10 also passes by the southern edge of town. You can get on I-10 from Exit 112, which is Florida State Road 79. I-10 leads to Tallahassee (91 miles east) and Pensacola (105 miles west).
Florida State Road 79 (Waukesha Street) links I-10 and US-90. It goes through the middle of Bonifay. This road leads north to Esto (13 miles) and south to Vernon (12 miles).

The city covers a total area of about 4.78 square miles (12.37 square kilometers). A small part of this area, about 0.07 square miles (0.19 square kilometers), is water.

Education in Bonifay
The Holmes District School Board manages the public schools in Bonifay. The city is home to three schools: Bonifay K-8 School, Holmes County High School, and Bethlehem School.
A study in 2004 showed that many high school graduates from Holmes County continue their education. About 56.73% go on to college or other training.
New School Building
A new school for grades K-8 was built in Bonifay. Construction started in 2015 and finished in 2017. This new school replaced Bonifay Elementary and Bonifay Middle schools.
The Holmes County Public Library is also located in Bonifay.
City Improvements
Bonifay is working on improving its roads. Florida State Road 79 is being made into a four-lane highway. This will make travel easier between Bonifay and Panama City Beach. There are also plans to expand the commercial areas south of Interstate 10.
