Kaori Asada (born April 16, 1973), known as Bonnie Pink, is a Japanese singer and songwriter. She writes all her own songs and plays both guitar and piano. Bonnie Pink chose her stage name because it was easy to remember and sounded cute together. The name doesn't have a special meaning.

Becoming a Music Star

Bonnie Pink started her music career in 1995. Her first song was "Orenji," released under her real name, Asada Kaori. Later that year, she released her first album, Blue Jam. She described this album as a mix of different feelings and music styles. It showed off her unique sound, which blends jazz, blues, pop, and rock.

Working with Producers

In 1996, Bonnie Pink worked with famous producers like Tore Johansson and Mitchell Froom. One of her songs, "It's Gonna Rain!", became the ending theme for the popular anime Rurouni Kenshin. For her third album, Evil & Flowers (1998), she went to the Swedish countryside to find inspiration. She put her feelings into the songs she wrote there. After this album, she traveled to New York to study music. In 1999, she signed with Warner Music Japan.

New Albums and Collaborations

For her fourth album, Let Go, Bonnie Pink worked again with Mitchell Froom. He was so impressed that he gave her credit for helping produce the album. She continued to release new music, including Just a Girl in 2001 and Present in 2003. In 2002, she released Re-Pink, an album with remixes of her songs. Her album Golden Tears came out in 2005. That same year, she performed at a music festival called SXSW in the United States.

Popular Songs and Anime Themes

In 2006, Bonnie Pink released the song "Love Is Bubble". Her song "A Perfect Sky" came out in June 2006. This song was used in a popular makeup commercial and became her most successful single, reaching number 5 on the music charts. Her "best of" album also sold very well, reaching number two on the charts. In November 2006, she sang on M-Flo's hit song "Love Song," which also made it into the top 10.

Songs for TV and Movies

Bonnie Pink's music has been featured in many shows. Her song "Cotton Candy" was the ending theme for the anime Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor in 2005. "Love Is Bubble" was the theme song for the Japanese movie Memories of Matsuko, where she also appeared. Her song "Last Kiss" was the ending theme for the anime Gantz.

More Chart Success

In 2007, Bonnie Pink released "Anything for You", which reached number 9 on the charts. Soon after, she released "Water Me". This song was the theme for the TV drama Watashitachi no Kyōkasho, a serious show about school challenges. "Water Me" reached number 6 on the charts. On July 7, 2007, Bonnie Pink performed at the Live Earth event in Kyoto.

Recent Albums

Bonnie Pink's album Thinking Out Loud was released on July 25, 2007. It was her first album available in both CD and CD+DVD formats. The album was very popular, becoming number 1 on Amazon Japan's best-sellers list before it even came out. It debuted at number 4 on the Oricon Daily Charts. She went on a tour called "Thinking Out Loud Tour" in late 2007 and early 2008.

Collaborations and Game Themes

In April 2008, Bonnie Pink was a guest on Domoto Tsuyoshi's album I and Ai. She helped write the lyrics for the song "Say Anything." The English version of her song "Ring a Bell" was used as the theme song for the American release of the Xbox 360 game Tales of Vesperia. This song was released on iTunes in Japan and America to celebrate her 35th birthday. Her 10th studio album, One, came out in May 2009.
