Boone Lake is a large reservoir located in northeastern Tennessee. It stretches across parts of Sullivan and Washington counties. A reservoir is like a big, artificial lake that stores water. Boone Lake was created by building Boone Dam across the South Fork Holston River.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) manages and takes care of both Boone Dam and Boone Lake. The lake covers an area of about 4,400 acres (18 km2), which is roughly the size of 3,300 football fields! It can hold a lot of water, especially to help prevent floods. The water level in the lake changes throughout the year, going up and down by about 20 feet (6 m).
