However, it is not an officially incorporated city or town. In 2020, about 4,968 people lived here. Boothwyn is part of Upper Chichester Township.

History of Boothwyn

Boothwyn has some interesting history! The Chichester Friends Meetinghouse was started way back in 1682. The building you can see today was built in 1769. This old building is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A famous musician named Bill Haley lived in Boothwyn for a long time. He was a pioneer of Rock and Roll music with his band, Bill Haley & His Comets.

You might know "Booth's Corner," a popular Pennsylvania Amish Market. This market is in Boothwyn. It was built on land that used to belong to Edwin Booth, who gave the building and the community its name.

Where is Boothwyn?

Boothwyn is located in the southwestern part of Delaware County. It's in the southern area of Upper Chichester Township. The community includes two smaller areas: Boothwyn (in the south) and Gardendale (in the north).

Boothwyn is about 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Chester. It is also about 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Wilmington, Delaware. The total area of Boothwyn is about 1.25 square miles (3.23 square kilometers), and it's all land.

Boothwyn has its own fire companies. These include the Boothwyn, Reliance, and Ogden fire companies. They help keep the community safe.

Schools in Boothwyn

Children living in Boothwyn go to schools in the Chichester School District. Younger students usually attend Boothwyn Elementary School or Hilltop School for grades K-4.

After elementary school, students go to Chichester Middle School for grades 5-8. For high school, they attend Chichester High School for grades 9-12.

There is also a Catholic school for the area. It is called Holy Family Regional Catholic School. It is located in Aston. This school was formed in 2012 when two other schools merged.
