The company started a long time ago in 1820. Two brothers, Wilhelm and Luis Born, opened a factory in Erfurt. They made mustard, vinegar, and other tasty food items.
The Born family owned the company for many years. But in the 1970s, the government of East Germany took control of it. This is called "nationalization." After 1990, the company became privately owned again. Today, about 50 people work at Born Feinkost.
