How Born Started
The Born company began a long time ago, in 1820. Two brothers, Wilhelm and Luis Born, started a factory in a part of Erfurt called Ilversgehofen. They made mustard, vinegar, and other food items.
Changes Over Time
The Born family owned the company for many years. But in the 1970s, the government of East Germany took control of many businesses, including Born. This meant the government owned the company instead of the family.
After 1990, when Germany became one country again, Born Feinkost became a private company once more. This means it is now owned by individuals, not the government. Today, about 50 people work for Born Feinkost.
