Boston Township is a small community in Summit County, Ohio. It is one of nine townships in the county. Boston Township is located about 15 miles north of Akron and 23 miles south of Cleveland. It is considered part of the larger Akron metropolitan area. In 2020, about 1,400 people lived in the township.

Exploring Boston Township's Location
Boston Township is in the northern part of Summit County. It shares its borders with several other townships and towns. For example, it is next to Sagamore Hills Township to the north and Hudson to the east.
Villages Within the Township
Two villages are partly located inside Boston Township. These are Boston Heights in the northeast and Peninsula in the center. While Peninsula is still part of the township, Boston Heights is a separate village.
Historical Land Divisions
The township is mostly located in a historical area known as the Connecticut Western Reserve. This was a piece of land once claimed by Connecticut.
How Boston Township Got Its Name
Boston Township was named by a person called James Stanford. He named it after the famous city of Boston, Massachusetts. It is the only township named Boston in the entire state of Ohio.
A Look at Boston Township's Past
People have lived in the area of Boston Township for a very long time. Around 200 AD, the Hopewell Culture lived here. They were a group of Native Americans known for building large earth mounds. One of their mounds, called the Everett Mound, is near Everett.
Boston Township was officially created in 1811. Over the years, the land that makes up Boston Township has been part of different counties. It started in Washington County in 1788. Then it was part of Jefferson, Trumbull, and Portage counties before finally becoming part of Summit County in 1840.
Getting Around Boston Township
Major Roads and Highways
Boston Township has important roads that help people travel. Interstate 271 passes through the township. There is an exit for State Route 303, which runs east to west through the middle of the township. The Ohio Turnpike (Interstate 80) also goes through Boston Township, but it does not have any exits within the township itself.
