Brad Michael Sham (born August 16, 1949) is an American sportscaster. He is widely known as the "Voice of the Dallas Cowboys". Sham currently works as the play-by-play announcer for the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network, describing the game live as it happens.

Brad Sham's Career

Sham joined the Cowboys in 1976. At first, he was a color analyst, explaining the game alongside the main announcer, Verne Lundquist. From 1976 to 1981, Sham was also the Sports Director at KRLD, which was the main radio station for the Cowboys at the time.

Becoming the Voice of the Cowboys

In 1984, when Lundquist left, Sham became the lead play-by-play announcer. He has held this important role ever since, except for three seasons in the mid-1990s. The 2009 season was his 30th year with the Cowboys organization. This is the longest time any broadcaster has spent with the team, even though his years were not all in a row. During his time away from the Cowboys (1995-1997), Sham called games for the Texas Rangers baseball team with Eric Nadel.

Announcing Other Sports

Brad Sham has also announced many other sports events. He has called NFL games for different networks like NFL on Westwood One, NFL on Fox, TNT Sunday Night Football, and NFL on CBS. He also worked for NFL Europe and the Arena Football League's Dallas Desperados.

Sham has a lot of experience announcing college sports. He has called games for the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship and college football. For over ten years, mostly in the 1980s, he was the radio voice for the Texas Longhorns football and basketball teams. He has been in the announcer's booth for 26 Cotton Bowl Classic games, calling the play-by-play for 25 of them. He has also announced basketball games for the Big 12 Network and ESPN.

Sham has also worked on Major League Soccer games for the Dallas Burn (now FC Dallas) and North American Soccer League games for the Dallas Tornado. He even helped cover the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. In 2008, he made his acting debut in the movie, W..

Writing and Contributions

In 2003, Sham wrote a book called Dallas Cowboys: Colorful Tales of America's Greatest Teams (ISBN: 0762727594). He also writes weekly articles for the dallascowboys.com website.

Awards and Recognition

Brad Sham has won the NSSA Texas Sportscaster of the Year award 11 times. He is also a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. In 2020, he was honored by being inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

About Brad Sham

Brad Sham is Jewish. Cory Provus, who is a broadcaster for the Minnesota Twins baseball team, is his cousin. Sham graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1970. He was part of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. In the 1980s, he owned a sports clothing store called Brad Sham's Big League Threads.
