Basketball Career
High School Years
Braeden Anderson grew up in Okotoks, a town near Calgary, Canada. When he was 14, he was already a star player. He averaged 30 points and 15 rebounds per game. By his senior year, he was considered one of the top five basketball players in all of Canada.
At Wilbraham & Monson Academy, he averaged 18 points and nine rebounds each game. He played in special games for top high school players, like the All-Canada Classic. People even called him "Mr. Canada Basketball." He was also part of Canada's senior Olympic team. Anderson first planned to play for DePaul University.
Later, he decided to play for the Kansas Jayhawks. However, the NCAA (the group that oversees college sports) said he couldn't play right away. This was because of rules about his high school education. He could go to school and practice, but he couldn't play in games. This situation was even featured on a Canadian TV show called The Fifth Estate.
College Years
Since he couldn't afford tuition, Anderson started his college journey at Fresno State. He played for the Bulldogs. He had to sit out his first season and missed many games in his second year. He finally played his first college game on February 6, 2013. In one game, he scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds against San Diego State.
Anderson then faced a very serious challenge. On September 3, 2013, he broke his neck in a car accident. Doctors said there was a very small chance he would leave the hospital. He spent 28 days recovering and had four major surgeries. After nine months of hard work in rehabilitation, he made a full recovery. During this time, he decided to focus on his studies and become a corporate lawyer. Even with his injury, he earned excellent grades.
He returned to the court in the 2014–15 season. He played in 17 games, showing his determination. In early 2015, Anderson left the basketball team to focus on graduating. He earned his degree in forensic behavioral science.
Anderson wanted to go to law school. He scored very well on the Law School Admission Test. He chose to transfer to Seton Hall. This was a great choice because he could use a basketball scholarship to pay for his first two years of law school. This was allowed by an NCAA rule for players who want to get a graduate degree not offered at their current school.
While playing, Anderson was known for being a strong and active player. He worked hard to get rebounds and play defense. He was a team player, always setting screens and moving the ball. He was the only active male NCAA Division I basketball player known to be studying law in the 2015–16 season.
