Braemar (pronounced /ˈbreɪmɑːr/) is a small village in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. It's part of the Wingecarribee Shire.
You can find Braemar about two kilometers north-east of Mittagong. Sometimes, people also include the nearby tiny villages of Balaclava and Willow Vale when they talk about Braemar.
A Glimpse into Braemar's Past
Braemar has an interesting history, especially with its train station. The station first opened on March 1, 1867. Back then, it was called Rushs Platform.
In 1892, the village was renamed Braemar. So, the train station also changed its name to Braemar to match. Passenger trains stopped using the station on August 5, 1978. Today, the station is still active. It helps a company that makes concrete sleepers. It also serves Clyde Engineering, a company that works with trains.
How Many People Live in Braemar?
The number of people living in Braemar has grown quite a bit! In 2016, a census counted 447 people living there. By the time of the 2021 census, the population had increased to 966 people.
