Brandan Keith Wright (born October 5, 1987) is a former American professional basketball player. He grew up in Tennessee. Brandan became a star player at his high school, Brentwood Academy. He won the "Mr. Basketball" award three times, which was a first in Tennessee high school history.
After leading his high school team to four state championships in a row, Brandan was recruited by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's basketball team. In his only year there, he was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Year. He also earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team. In the 2007 NBA draft, Brandan was chosen eighth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats. On draft night, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Brandan Wright was born and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. During his time in high school, he was chosen twice for the first-team Parade All-American team. This is a special honor for top high school basketball players.
In his senior year, Brandan averaged 22.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 5.1 blocks per game. He also achieved four "triple-doubles". A triple-double means a player gets double-digit numbers in three different stats, like points, rebounds, and assists.
Brandan won Tennessee's Division II Mr. Basketball award in 2004, 2005, and 2006. He was the first player ever to win this award three times at any level of Tennessee high school basketball. He led his Brentwood Academy team to win four state championships in a row. This was also a first in Tennessee high school basketball history. Brandan was named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the state championship tournament four times.
College Career at North Carolina
Brandan Wright played for one season at the University of North Carolina. He played in 37 games and started every one. On average, he scored 14.7 points per game. He also had 6.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.76 blocks per game.
His shooting percentage from the field was 64.6%, which was the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) that year. It was also the best ever for an ACC freshman. Brandan led his team in blocks and was second in scoring and rebounding. He scored 20 or more points in eight different games.
Brandan was named the MVP of the ACC Tournament. He was only the fifth freshman in the conference's history to win this award. He was also named the ACC Rookie of the Year.

Professional Basketball Career
Golden State Warriors (2007–2011)
After his freshman year, Brandan decided to enter the 2007 NBA draft. The Charlotte Bobcats picked him eighth overall. However, on the same night, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors. This trade was for another player, Jason Richardson.
During his first year, Brandan played in 38 games and started 6 of them. He had an injured hip, which kept him from playing in the summer league. In January 2009, he hurt his left shoulder during a game. In October 2009, he had shoulder surgery and missed the entire 2009–10 season.
New Jersey Nets (2011)
On February 23, 2011, Brandan was traded to the New Jersey Nets. He was part of a trade that sent him and another player to the Nets.
Dallas Mavericks (2011–2014)
Brandan signed with the Dallas Mavericks on December 9, 2011. On March 24, 2012, he had a career-high of seven blocked shots in a game against the Houston Rockets. He was the first Mavericks player since 2008 to block seven shots in a single game.
In the 2011–12 NBA season, Brandan averaged 6.9 points and 1.3 blocks per game. He scored double-digit points 13 times that season. He also shot a team-best 61.8% from the field. Brandan made his NBA Playoff debut in April 2012. He re-signed with the Mavericks in July 2013.
Boston Celtics (2014–2015)
On December 18, 2014, Brandan was traded to the Boston Celtics. This trade involved several players and draft picks.
Phoenix Suns (2015)
Brandan was traded again on January 9, 2015, this time to the Phoenix Suns. In one game, he scored 16 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and tied his career-high with 7 blocks.
Memphis Grizzlies (2015–2018)
On July 9, 2015, Brandan signed a three-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies. He injured his right knee in November 2015 and missed most of the 2015–16 season.
He returned for the 2016 preseason but then injured his left ankle. In November 2016, he had surgery on his ankle and was out for two months. He returned to play in January 2017. Brandan missed most of December 2017 due to a groin injury. The Grizzlies later released him in February 2018.
Houston Rockets (2018)
On February 12, 2018, Brandan signed with the Houston Rockets. He was released by the Rockets in March 2018.

Player Profile
Brandan Wright said that his favorite player growing up was Kevin Garnett. He also admired Chris Bosh's playing style. Brandan was known for being a great finisher near the basket. One area he worked on was his strength and being more consistent on defense.
Personal Life and Hobbies
Brandan has two younger brothers. He has also been involved in many community projects with the Golden State Warriors. These projects included helping open a new learning center and visiting a children's hospital. He also helped with a Thanksgiving food distribution event.
Brandan enjoys bowling, fishing, golfing, and playing video games. His favorite actor is Will Smith, and his favorite movie is Bad Boys II. When he was younger, he played baseball and was a pitcher. His favorite foods are fried chicken and steak. He also likes the Atlanta Braves (baseball), Nashville Predators (hockey), and Tennessee Titans (football) teams. Brandan wears a size 14 shoe.
