History of Brandon
When Brandon Became a City
The area where Brandon is now located became an official village on November 22, 1881. Before this, the current town site was planned out in August 1879. This happened when the railroad was being built through the area.
How Brandon Got Its Name
Originally, the town was called Chippewa. It was located about two miles north of where Brandon is today. The name "Brandon" was chosen to honor Brandon, Vermont. This was the birthplace of Stephen A. Douglas, a famous American politician.
