After leaving Pinhead Circus, Brandon Barnes joined Rise Against in 2000. The band signed with Fat Wreck Chords in 2001. They released their first album, The Unraveling, that same year. They spent the rest of the year touring and playing shows.

In December 2002, the band went back to the studio. They worked on their second album, Revolutions Per Minute, which came out in 2003. They toured for the 2003 Warped Tour. This tour helped the band become more well-known.

Rise Against then signed with Dreamworks Records in late 2003. They planned to record their third album. However, Dreamworks was soon bought by the Universal Music Group. This meant Rise Against ended up with a major record label called Geffen Records. The band's guitarist at the time, Todd Mohney, left. Chris Chasse replaced him. They then started recording their new album, Siren Song of the Counter Culture.

Siren Song of the Counter Culture was released on August 10, 2004. It reached number 136 on the Billboard 200 album charts. This album brought the band a lot of success. Popular songs from it included "Give It All", "Swing Life Away", and "Life Less Frightening".

The band went back to the studio in January 2006. They had just finished touring for Siren Song of the Counter Culture. Rise Against recorded their fourth album at the Blasting Room studio in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Sufferer & the Witness was released on July 4, 2006. It reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. Critics generally liked the album, and it sold very well. Hit songs from this album were "Ready to Fall", "Prayer of the Refugee", and "The Good Left Undone".

Rise Against toured to support The Sufferer & the Witness through late 2006 and all of 2007. The band was a main act on the 2006 Warped Tour. In late 2006, they toured with the band Thursday. Other bands like Circa Survive and Billy Talent also joined them. In 2007, Chris Chasse left the band. His longtime friend Zach Blair from Only Crime took his place. During this tour, on July 3, 2007, Rise Against released an EP (a shorter album) in Canada called This Is Noise. It was later released in the United States on January 15, 2008.

Rise Against's fifth album, Appeal to Reason, came out on October 4 in Australia. It was released on October 6 in Europe and October 7 in the United States. The album sold 64,700 copies in its first week. It reached number 3 on the Billboard 200, which was their highest-charting album at that time. Appeal to Reason also received good reviews. In June and July 2009, Rise Against went on a North American tour. They played with bands like Rancid, Billy Talent, Killswitch Engage, and Riverboat Gamblers.

After touring for almost two years, Rise Against started recording their sixth album. They recorded it at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado. Endgame was released on March 11, 2011, in the United States. It reached number 2 on the Billboard 200. Critics gave it good reviews, and it was very popular in the United States and Canada. After touring in South America and Europe, Rise Against toured the United States in April 2011. They were joined by Bad Religion and Four Year Strong.
