Brandon Carey Carr (born May 19, 1986) is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). His teams included the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Baltimore Ravens.
Carr played college football for the Grand Valley State Lakers. He was picked by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was known for starting many games in a row as a defensive player. He was also the player covering Odell Beckham Jr. during a very famous catch.
Early Life and High School Football
Brandon Carr was born and grew up in Flint, Michigan. He went to Carman Ainsworth High School. As a senior, he played both offense and defense.
On defense, he made 53 tackles and had 2 interceptions. On offense, he caught 24 passes for 431 yards and scored four touchdowns. He was named to the All-conference defensive team. He also played basketball in high school.
College Football Career
Carr played for Grand Valley State, a NCAA Division II school. He played in 49 games, starting 41 of them. During his college career, he made 206 tackles and had 11 interceptions. He also broke up 39 passes.
In his second and third years, he helped his team win two NCAA Division II Football Championships. In his final year, he played in all 13 games. He had 45 tackles, two interceptions, and broke up 13 passes. He was named the Defensive Back of the Year for his conference.
Professional Football Journey
Starting in the NFL: Kansas City Chiefs
Brandon Carr was chosen by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the 140th player picked overall. This made him the highest-drafted player ever from Grand Valley State.
His coach, Herman Edwards, believed in him a lot. He even said Carr would be a starter by the first game. Carr signed a three-year contract for $1.36 million.
Rookie Season (2008)
Carr quickly became a starter for the Chiefs. He played his first NFL game against the New England Patriots. In Week 4, he got his first career interception against quarterback Jay Cutler. He finished his first year with 73 tackles, 6 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions. He started all 16 games.
Building Up (2009-2011)
Carr continued to be a key player for the Chiefs. He and Brandon Flowers were the main starting cornerbacks.
In 2009, he had 62 tackles and 19 passes defended. He also had an interception. In 2010, he had 57 tackles and led the team with 25 pass deflections. The Chiefs made the playoffs that year. In 2011, he had 45 tackles and 4 interceptions. He was very good at preventing passes from being completed.
Moving to the Dallas Cowboys
After the 2011 season, Carr became a free agent. Many teams wanted him. On March 14, 2012, the Dallas Cowboys signed him to a big five-year contract.
First Years with the Cowboys (2012-2013)
Carr immediately became the Cowboys' top cornerback. In Week 10 of 2012, he scored his first NFL touchdown. He intercepted a pass and ran it back 47 yards! He also made a game-winning interception in overtime against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He finished the year with 53 tackles and 3 interceptions.
In 2013, he continued to play well. He scored another touchdown from an interception in the season opener. He ended the season with 71 tackles and 3 interceptions.
Later Years with the Cowboys (2014-2016)
In 2014, Carr had 54 tackles and his first career sack. It was his first season without an interception. In 2015, he had 76 tackles. He kept his streak of starting every game alive.
In 2016, Carr agreed to a lower salary to stay with the Cowboys. He had a great season, getting an interception in Week 1. He finished with 61 tackles and 9 pass deflections. The Cowboys had a fantastic 13-3 record and made the playoffs.
Joining the Baltimore Ravens
In 2017, Carr became a free agent again. The Baltimore Ravens signed him to a four-year contract.
Playing for the Ravens (2017-2019)
Carr became a starting cornerback for the Ravens right away. In his first game, he had an interception in a shutout win. He had a career-high 4 interceptions in 2017. He also extended his streak of consecutive starts to 160 games.
In 2018, he started all 16 games again. He had 45 tackles and 2 interceptions. By 2019, Carr was second among all NFL players for consecutive games started. He played in all 16 games, making 49 tackles and 2 sacks.
Back with the Dallas Cowboys (2020)
In 2020, Carr briefly returned to the Dallas Cowboys. He was signed to their practice squad and played in 3 games as a reserve player. He was released later that season.

Personal Life and Foundation
In December 2012, Brandon Carr started the Carr Cares Foundation. This foundation helps young people with their education and physical fitness. It focuses on reading skills and sports. The foundation works in Dallas, Baltimore, and his hometown of Flint, Michigan.
