Brandon Emmanuel Knight (born December 2, 1991) is an American professional basketball player. He recently played for AEK Athens in Greece. Brandon was named Gatorade National Player of the Year twice in high school. After playing one year of college basketball for Kentucky, he was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 2011 NBA draft.
He played for the Pistons for two seasons. Then, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. After about a year and a half with the Bucks, he moved to the Phoenix Suns in 2015. Later, he played for the Houston Rockets and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also spent time with the Dallas Mavericks and in the NBA G League. In 2023, he was named the Most Valuable Player in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league in Puerto Rico.

High School Basketball Star
Brandon Knight was born in Miami, Florida. He went to Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was a great student and athlete, with a high grade-point average.
In his junior year (2008–09), he averaged 31.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 3.2 steals per game. As a senior (2009–10), he averaged 32.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4 assists. He was named Gatorade National Player of the Year in both of these years. In 2010, he also won the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year award.
Brandon led Pine Crest to four state championship games. They won state titles in 2008 and 2009. He was also named the Class 3A-1A Basketball Player of the Year four times by the Miami Herald. He won Florida Mr. Basketball twice. His 3,515 career points are the second most in Florida high school basketball history.
After his senior year, Brandon played in several important games. These included the McDonald's All-American Game, Nike Hoop Summit, and Jordan Brand Classic. In the 2010 McDonald's All-American Game, he made a three-pointer at the last second. This shot gave his team a 107–104 victory.
Brandon was ranked as one of the top basketball players in his class. In April 2010, he decided to play for the University of Kentucky.
College Career at Kentucky
As a freshman at the University of Kentucky, Brandon Knight played in 38 games. He averaged 17.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He shot well from the field, from three-point range, and from the free-throw line.
He set new records for freshmen at Kentucky. He scored 657 points, made 87 three-pointers, and had 14 games where he scored 20 points or more. He was also a top player in the SEC. He earned First-Team All-SEC honors from coaches. He was also named to the SEC All-Freshman team.
Brandon scored a career-high 30 points against West Virginia in the 2011 NCAA tournament. He then had 22 points, seven rebounds, and four assists against North Carolina. He was named the Most Outstanding Player for the NCAA East Region All-Tournament team.
In April 2011, Brandon decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would not play his last three years of college basketball.
Professional Basketball Journey
Playing for the Detroit Pistons (2011–2013)
The Detroit Pistons chose Brandon Knight as the eighth overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. In May 2012, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. He was the first Pistons rookie to get this honor since Grant Hill in 1995.
Brandon scored 847 points in his rookie season. This was the second-highest by a Pistons rookie since 1985. He averaged 12.8 points per game, which was the fourth-highest for a Pistons rookie since 1980.
He played 141 games for the Pistons over two seasons. He averaged 13.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. He scored double figures 92 times and had three games with 30 points or more.
Time with the Milwaukee Bucks (2013–2015)
On July 31, 2013, Brandon was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. He joined the Bucks along with Khris Middleton and Viacheslav Kravtsov. His first season with the Bucks started with a hamstring injury. This caused him to miss several games early on.
On December 20, 2013, Brandon had a great game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and made 8 assists. On December 31, he scored a career-high 37 points in a win against the Los Angeles Lakers. He had a very productive season. He was only the second player in the Bucks' history to lead the team in both scoring and assists in his first season.
On November 19, 2014, Brandon missed an easy layup that could have won the game in overtime. However, he made up for it by hitting a three-pointer to force a third overtime. The Bucks ended up winning that game. In January 2015, he scored 20 points, had 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and a career-high 6 steals. By the All-Star break in 2015, Brandon was leading the team in scoring and assists. He averaged 17.8 points, 5.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 steals.
Moving to the Phoenix Suns (2015–2018)
On February 19, 2015, Brandon was traded to the Phoenix Suns. He missed some games in March due to an ankle injury. He then missed the end of the season because of a heel injury that needed surgery.
On July 17, 2015, Brandon signed a new five-year contract with the Suns. On November 12, he tied his career high with 37 points in a win against the Los Angeles Clippers. Four days later, he achieved his first career triple-double. He had 30 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 15 assists in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers. He became one of only a few players to get such high numbers in points, assists, rebounds, and steals at a young age.
On November 20, Brandon set a new career high with 38 points against the Denver Nuggets. On December 13, he scored 25 points and made a career-high seven three-pointers. He missed time between January and March due to a muscle strain in his leg. On March 12, he scored 30 points and tied his career high with seven three-pointers again. He did this again on March 28. On April 3, he was ruled out for the rest of the season due to the same leg strain. He had surgery a few days later.
In the 2016–17 season, Brandon often came off the bench. He missed the entire 2017–18 season because he tore a ligament in his left knee in July 2017. This injury also required surgery.
Playing for the Houston Rockets (2018–2019)
On August 31, 2018, Brandon was traded to the Houston Rockets. He was hoping to get back to playing well after his injury. However, he was sidelined again before the season started because his surgery site got infected.
On November 30, he was sent to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA G League for rehab. He played one game there, scoring 16 points and making five assists. He was then called back to the Rockets on December 1. On December 13, he played his first game for the Rockets. This was his first NBA game since February 2017. He played 12 games for the Rockets before being sidelined again in January due to knee soreness.
With the Cleveland Cavaliers (2019–2020)
On February 7, 2019, Brandon was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played his first game for the Cavaliers two days later, scoring nine points.
Back to Detroit (2020)
On February 6, 2020, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded Brandon back to the Detroit Pistons.
Dallas Mavericks and G League (2021–2022)
In March 2021, Brandon worked out with his old team, the Milwaukee Bucks, but they didn't sign him. In August 2021, he joined the Brooklyn Nets for the NBA Summer League. He briefly signed with the New York Knicks in October but was waived the same day.
On October 23, 2021, the Sioux Falls Skyforce picked Brandon in the NBA G League draft. In 11 games, he averaged 21.3 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.6 rebounds.
On December 23, 2021, Brandon signed a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks. After this contract ended, he went back to the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He signed a second 10-day contract with the Mavericks in March 2022.
Playing in Puerto Rico (2023–2024)
On March 14, 2023, Brandon signed with the Piratas de Quebradillas in Puerto Rico. He had a fantastic season there. He was named the 2023 BSN Most Valuable Player. He also became the 2023 BSN Scoring Champion. He averaged 24.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 three-pointers per game.
