About the Music of Brave
The music for Brave is very special. It was the first Disney film to have song lyrics in Scottish Gaelic. This is a language spoken in Scotland.
Songs in Scottish Languages
One important song is "A Mhaighdean Bhan Uasal (Noble Maiden Fair)". It's a lullaby sung by characters Merida and Queen Elinor. This song appears several times in the movie. It features Gaelic singing by Emma Thompson and Peigi Barker.
Patrick Doyle also wrote "Song of Mor’du". This is a fun drinking song. It's sung by Billy Connolly and other cast members. This song uses words from the Scots language, which is another language from Scotland.
Music in the Movie Trailers
Patrick Doyle's original music was also used in the official trailers for the film. This music became a big part of the movie's score. The trailers also featured a Scottish Gaelic song. It was called "Tha Mo Ghaol Air Àird A' Chuain" and was sung by Julie Fowlis. This song came from her album Mar a tha mo chridhe.
A Unique Pixar Soundtrack
Brave is special because it was the first Pixar film not scored by certain famous composers. Usually, Randy Newman, Thomas Newman, or Michael Giacchino compose Pixar movies. Brave is one of only a few Pixar films not scored by them.
Also, the London Symphony Orchestra performed the music. This means Brave was the first (and only) Pixar film not scored in Los Angeles.
