Breakfast with Frost was a popular Sunday morning TV show on BBC One. It was hosted by the famous presenter Sir David Frost. The show talked about important news and events, especially about politics. Sir David would interview important politicians and other famous people. They would also discuss the news from the Sunday newspapers. The programme was on TV from 1993 to 2005.

Show History

This section explains how Breakfast with Frost came to be. It started even before it was on the BBC.

Early Days at TV-am

Before joining the BBC, Sir David Frost was part of a TV company called TV-am. This company was the first to broadcast breakfast TV on ITV. David Frost was one of the main presenters and owners.

When TV-am first started in 1983, it didn't do very well. Not many people watched it. This was because the BBC had a more popular breakfast show called Breakfast Time.

Because of low viewership, TV-am made big changes. David Frost was then chosen to host the Sunday morning show. This show changed its name a few times over the years. It was called The Sunday Programme in 1985. Then it became David Frost on Sunday in 1986. Finally, in 1988, it was named Frost on Sunday.

Sir David Frost only worked for six months of the year. Other presenters would fill in for him. These included Jonathan Dimbleby and Lorraine Kelly. The show continued until the end of 1992. TV-am lost its broadcasting license to another company called GMTV.

Moving to the BBC

The BBC quickly decided to pick up the show's format. Breakfast with Frost started on BBC One just one week later, on January 3, 1993. It continued for more than 12 years.

The very first guest interviewed on the BBC show was John Major. He was the Prime Minister at the time. In its early years, the show was also shown again later on Sunday mornings on Sky News.

The very last episode of Breakfast with Frost aired on May 29, 2005. Famous guests on this final show included Archbishop Desmond Tutu and comedian Rory Bremner. Other guests like TV presenter Carol Vorderman and chef Nigella Lawson reviewed the newspapers.

Show Titles and Music

The show had different opening titles over its run. These are the animated sequences you see at the beginning of a TV programme.

The first set of titles was used from 1993 to 1996. A second version was used from 1996 to 2003. The final version was seen from 2003 until the show ended in 2005.

The catchy theme music for the show was created by a composer named Chris Blackwell.
