Brenton Thwaites (born August 10, 1989) is an actor from Australia. He started his acting journey in his home country in 2011. He had a main role in the TV show Slide. Later, he appeared in the popular soap opera Home and Away.
After moving to the United States, Brenton got big roles in several movies. These include Blue Lagoon: The Awakening (2012), Oculus (2013), and The Giver (2014). He also starred in Gods of Egypt (2016) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). From 2018 to 2023, he played Dick Grayson / Robin / Nightwing in the TV series Titans.

Early Life and Acting Dreams
Brenton Thwaites was born in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, on August 10, 1989. He finished high school at Cairns State High School in 2006.
When he was younger, Brenton thought about becoming a policeman or a firefighter. He loved movies about firefighters. But then, his interests changed to acting. He enjoyed the idea of "letting your personality shine through many different characters." When he was 16, Brenton acted for the first time in front of a live audience. It was in a play called Romeo and Juliet.
Brenton studied acting at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) for three years. He graduated in 2010. After that, he moved to Sydney. There, he joined the long-running TV show Home and Away. In 2011 or 2012, he moved to the United States to continue his acting career.
Brenton's Acting Journey
Starting Out (2010–2011)
Before finishing university, Brenton made his first movie appearance. It was in an independent film called Charge Over You in 2010. After graduating, he appeared in an episode of Sea Patrol. He also acted in a short film called Headsmen.
In November 2010, Brenton got a role in a new Australian teen drama series. The show was called Slide and aired on Fox8. It followed five teenagers in Brisbane as they grew up. Brenton played a character named Luke Gallagher. He said Luke was a quiet person who watched others. Luke was dealing with family problems. He joined the group to find better friends and grow up. Brenton's first episode of Slide aired on August 16, 2011. The show ran for one season.
In April 2011, Brenton moved to Sydney. Soon after, he got a five-month role on Home and Away. He played Stu Henderson in the show's 24th season. Brenton said the show was a great way to learn. He also found his co-stars easy to work with. His first appearance as Stu was on August 23, 2011.
Big Movie Roles (2012–2016)
After moving to the United States, Brenton got a main role in a TV movie. It was the 2012 film Blue Lagoon: The Awakening. He starred opposite Indiana Evans.
In 2013, Brenton starred in the horror film Oculus. He played the main character, Tim Russell. Filming for Oculus started in October 2012 in Alabama. The movie was first shown on September 5, 2013, at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. It was released in cinemas worldwide on April 11, 2014.
In 2014, Brenton went back to Australia for a short time. He filmed a crime thriller called Son of a Gun. He had to audition many times for the role of JR. Brenton said he was excited to play a "vulnerable kid among strange men." Critics praised his acting in the film.
Also in 2014, Brenton appeared in Maleficent. He played Prince Phillip. A sequel to Maleficent came out in 2019. However, Brenton could not return for the sequel due to other filming plans. Another actor, Harris Dickinson, took over his role.
Brenton also starred in The Signal as Nic Eastman. The movie was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Critics noted his strong performance in the film.
Later that year, he played the main role of Jonas in The Giver. This movie was mostly filmed in South Africa. Brenton's acting was praised by some critics. He even won the Australians in Film "Breakthrough Award" for his role in The Giver.
Brenton then starred in Gods of Egypt. He played Bek, a human thief. Filming started in March 2014 in Sydney, Australia. The movie was released worldwide on February 26, 2016.
Pirates of the Caribbean and Titans (2017–Present)
Brenton starred in the adventure movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. It was released on May 26, 2017. Brenton played Henry Turner. Henry is the son of famous characters Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. Filming began in February 2015 on the Gold Coast in Australia.
After Pirates, Brenton had a main role in the 2017 film An Interview with God. He played Paul Asher, a young journalist. Then, Brenton was cast as Dick Grayson / Robin in the DC Universe TV series Titans. This show started airing in 2018 and he starred in it until 2023.
Personal Life
Brenton Thwaites has been in a relationship with Chloe Pacey since 2015. They met when they lived in the same shared house in Australia. This was while Brenton was filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. After living in Los Angeles for a while, Brenton moved back to Queensland, Australia. Brenton and Chloe got engaged on July 26, 2023. They have five children together.
