Brenton Thwaites is an Australian actor born on August 10, 1989. He started his acting career in Australia in 2011. He had a main role in the TV show Slide and later appeared in the soap opera Home and Away.
After moving to the United States, Brenton got big roles in movies like Blue Lagoon: The Awakening (2012), Oculus (2013), The Giver (2014), Gods of Egypt (2016), and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). From 2018 to 2023, he played Dick Grayson (also known as Robin and Nightwing) in the TV series Titans.

Brenton's Early Life and Acting Start
Brenton Thwaites grew up in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. He has one sister. He finished high school at Cairns State High School in 2006.
When he was younger, Brenton thought about becoming a police officer or a firefighter. He loved movies about firefighters. But then, he became interested in filmmaking. He liked the idea of "letting your personality shine through so many different characters." At 16, Brenton acted for the first time in front of a live audience in a play called Romeo and Juliet.
Brenton studied acting at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) for three years. He graduated in 2010. After that, he moved to Sydney to join the popular TV show Home and Away. Later, in 2011 or 2012, he moved to the United States to continue his acting career.
Brenton's Acting Journey
Starting Out in Australia (2010–2011)
Before he even graduated from university, Brenton Thwaites appeared in his first movie. It was an independent film from 2010 called Charge Over You. After graduating, he was in an episode of Sea Patrol and a short film called Headsmen.
In November 2010, Brenton was chosen for a new Australian teen drama series called Slide. This show was about five teenagers in Brisbane growing up. Brenton played a character named Luke Gallagher. He described Luke as someone who "stands back a bit. He watches." Brenton first appeared on Slide on August 16, 2011. The show ran for one season.
Soon after moving to Sydney in April 2011, Brenton got a role in Home and Away. He played Stu Henderson for five months. Brenton said the show was a great way to learn. He also found his co-stars easy to work with. His first appearance as Stu was on August 23, 2011.
Big Movie Roles (2012–2016)
After moving to the United States, Brenton Thwaites got a main role in the 2012 TV movie Blue Lagoon: The Awakening. He starred alongside Indiana Evans. Many people liked Brenton's acting in the film.
In 2013, Brenton starred in the horror film Oculus. He played the main character, Tim Russell. Filming for Oculus started in October 2012. The movie was first shown on September 5, 2013, at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. It was released in theaters worldwide on April 11, 2014. Critics said Brenton did a good job showing how scared his character was.
In 2014, Brenton went back to Australia to film the crime thriller Son of a Gun. He had to audition many times for the role of JR. Brenton said he was excited to play a "vulnerable kid amongst strange men." People praised his acting in this movie. It premiered in Australia on October 16, 2014.
Also in 2014, Brenton appeared in Maleficent as Prince Phillip. He was unable to return for the sequel in 2019 due to other work. He also starred in The Signal as Nic Eastman. This movie was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014. Brenton's performance in The Signal was noted as "compelling."
Later in 2014, Brenton played the main role of Jonas in The Giver. This movie was mostly filmed in South Africa. While some critics had mixed feelings about the movie, many praised Brenton's acting. He even won the Australians in Film "Breakthrough Award" for his role in The Giver.
Brenton also starred in Gods of Egypt. He played Bek, a human thief. Filming began on March 20, 2014, in Sydney, Australia. The movie was released worldwide on February 26, 2016.
Pirates of the Caribbean and Titans (2017–Present)
Brenton Thwaites starred in the adventure movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. This film came out on May 26, 2017. Brenton played Henry Turner. Henry is the son of popular characters Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. Filming started in February 2015 in Queensland, Australia.
After Pirates, Brenton had a main role in the 2017 film An Interview with God. He played a young journalist named Paul Asher. Then, Brenton was cast as Dick Grayson / Robin in the DC Universe series Titans. This show started airing in 2018 and he continued in the role until 2023.
Brenton's Personal Life
Brenton Thwaites has been in a relationship with Chloe Pacey since 2015. They met when they lived in the same house in Australia. This was while Brenton was filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. After living in Los Angeles for a while, Brenton moved back to Queensland. Brenton and Chloe got engaged on July 26, 2023. They have five children together.
