Breon Stacey Peace (born in 1971) is an American lawyer. He worked as the top lawyer for the United States government in the Eastern District of New York. This important job lasted from October 2021 until January 2025.

Breon Peace's Education

Breon Peace studied at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree there in 1993. Later, he went to New York University School of Law. In 1996, he received his Juris Doctor degree, which is a law degree.

Breon Peace's Career in Law

After law school, Breon Peace worked as a law clerk for Judge Sterling Johnson Jr.. This was at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York from 1997 to 1998.

He spent many years at a law firm called Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. He worked there as an associate from 1996 to 1997, 1998 to 1999, and 2003 to 2007. From 2007 to 2022, he was a partner at the firm. This means he was one of the main leaders.

Peace also taught law at New York University School of Law. He was an acting assistant professor from 2002 to 2003. Before that, he worked as an Assistant United States Attorney. This was in the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York from 2000 to 2002.

Serving as U.S. Attorney

In March 2021, Senator Chuck Schumer suggested Breon Peace for a big job. He recommended Peace to become the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. On August 10, 2021, President Joe Biden officially nominated him for this role.

His nomination was approved by a committee on September 30, 2021. Then, on October 5, 2021, the United States Senate confirmed his nomination. He was officially sworn into office on October 15, 2021. United States Chief District Judge Margo Kitsy Brodie performed the ceremony. Breon Peace resigned from this position on January 10, 2025.

As the U.S. Attorney, Breon Peace worked on important cases. One case involved Douglass Mackey. He was accused of trying to unfairly influence the 2016 elections. This was done by encouraging people on Twitter to vote by text message.
