Brian Lloyd Roberts (born December 3, 1985) is an American who used to play professional basketball. He played college basketball for the University of Dayton. Brian is 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m) tall and played as a point guard.

Brian Roberts' Early Life and High School Basketball

Brian Roberts grew up in Toledo, Ohio. He went to St. John's Jesuit High School. Brian was a top player there. He was chosen as an All-Ohio player three times. He was also named District VII Player of the Year twice. Plus, he was Toledo City League Player of the Year two times.

In 2004, Brian was named the Ohio Division I Co-Player of the Year. He led his high school team to the state championship game. Even though his team lost 51–48, Brian scored 18 points in that final game.

Brian Roberts' College Basketball Career

Brian played college basketball for four years at the University of Dayton. He played in 125 games during his college career. On average, he scored 15.7 points, grabbed 3.0 rebounds, and made 2.8 assists per game.

He earned many awards while at Dayton. These included being on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. He was also on the All-Atlantic 10 second team twice. Later, he made the All-Atlantic 10 first team. Brian was even nominated for major awards like the John R. Wooden Award. He was also considered for the Naismith Award and the Bob Cousy Award.

After college, Brian Roberts started his professional basketball career. He played for teams in different countries.

Playing in Israel and Germany

Brian was not chosen in the 2008 NBA draft. But he still played in the NBA Summer League for the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers. After that, he signed with a team in Israel called Altshuler Saham Galil Gilboa for the 2008–09 season.

In 2009, Brian moved to Germany. He signed a two-year deal with Brose Baskets. He also played in the NBA Summer League for the Sacramento Kings. Brian stayed with Brose Baskets and won many titles. He helped them win the German League championship three times. They also won the German Cup three times.

Time in the NBA: New Orleans Hornets / Pelicans

In 2012, Brian joined the New Orleans Hornets for the NBA Summer League. He then signed a multi-year deal to play in the NBA with the Hornets. On March 25, 2013, he had a great game. He made a career-high 18 assists. This helped the Hornets stop the Denver Nuggets' 15-game winning streak. In April 2013, the team changed its name to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Brian continued to play well. During the 2013–14 NBA season, he had the best free throw percentage in the entire league.

Playing for the Charlotte Hornets

On July 23, 2014, Brian signed with the Charlotte Hornets. On April 13, 2015, he scored a career-high 23 points. This happened in a game against the Houston Rockets. He came off the bench to score those points.

Short Time with the Portland Trail Blazers

In February 2016, Brian was traded from the Hornets to the Miami Heat. This was part of a trade involving three teams. Just two days later, he was traded again. This time, he went to the Portland Trail Blazers. He played his first game for the Trail Blazers on February 19. He scored seven points in just four minutes.

Back to Charlotte

On July 7, 2016, Brian Roberts signed with the Charlotte Hornets again. This was his second time playing for the team.

Playing in Greece and Spain

After his second time with the Hornets, Brian went to play in Europe again. On July 23, 2017, he signed a two-year deal with the Greek club Olympiacos. This contract was worth $4 million. However, Olympiacos decided to end his contract early in June 2018.

On July 13, 2018, Brian signed a one-year deal with the Spanish club Unicaja. He played there until 2019, when he finished his professional basketball career.

NBA Career Highlights

Brian Roberts played 314 regular season games in the NBA. He started 59 of those games. He averaged 6.6 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game. In the 2013-14 season, he led the entire NBA in free throw percentage, shooting 94% from the free throw line.

He also played in 10 playoff games with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2016.
