Brian Yuzna is an American filmmaker. He is known for producing, directing, and writing movies, especially in the science fiction and horror film genres. Brian Yuzna started his career as a producer for films like Re-Animator (1985) and From Beyond (1986). He then directed his first movie, Society, in 1989.
He also helped write the popular comedy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989). Brian Yuzna was the first American director to turn a Japanese comic book (called a manga) into a live-action movie. This movie was The Guyver (1991). He has also directed several films based on the stories of writer H. P. Lovecraft. Brian Yuzna has helped many new directors get their first movies made.

Brian Yuzna's Early Life
Brian Yuzna was born in Manila, Philippines. His parents were American. He grew up in different countries like Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and Panama. In the 1960s, he moved to the United States and settled in Atlanta, Georgia. Brian Yuzna was raised in the Roman Catholic faith. In the 1970s, he lived in a special community in North Carolina. During that time, he worked as a carpenter and in a restaurant.
Brian Yuzna's Film Career
Brian Yuzna started his career by producing horror films. He worked with his friend, director Stuart Gordon, on movies like Re-Animator (1985), From Beyond (1986), and Dolls (1987). He also helped write From Beyond. In the same year, Yuzna co-wrote the funny movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids with Stuart Gordon. In 1989, he directed his first movie, Society. This film was a horror story about a rich community in Beverly Hills who were actually mutants.
Directing Horror Sequels
After Society, Brian Yuzna directed several horror movie sequels. These included Bride of Re-Animator (1990), Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation (1990), and Return of the Living Dead 3 (1993). He then directed The Dentist (1996), a horror film about a dentist in Los Angeles who tortures his patients. Brian Yuzna also directed the sequel, The Dentist 2 (1998).
Fantastic Factory and Later Work
Brian Yuzna became very popular in Europe. In the early 2000s, he started a film company called Fantastic Factory with Julio Fernández. This company was part of Filmax, a film company in Barcelona, Spain. His goal was to make horror, science fiction, and fantasy movies that didn't cost too much money. These movies were made for audiences around the world and were filmed in English. He also wanted to help new filmmakers from different countries.
In 2009, it was announced that a movie he was producing, Worst Case Scenario, was canceled. This film was about zombies. However, the movie later became Frankenstein's Army and was released in 2013. After four years, Brian Yuzna returned to directing. He filmed Amphibious 3-D (2010), which starred actors Michael Paré and Francis Magee.
In 2014, a special event was held in Hollywood to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Brian Yuzna was the guest of honor. In 2015, a show called Brian Yuzna, A Retrospective looked back at his 30 years of work. In 2016, a new movie directed by Yuzna was announced, called The Plastic Surgeon. By the end of 2023, he was working on turning his movie Society into a novel (a book).

Brian Yuzna is married to Cathy Cherry Yuzna. They have four children together. Their names are Conan Yuzna, Zoe Yuzna, Noah Yuzna, and Logan Yuzna.
