Brian Yuzna is an American filmmaker who produces, directs, and writes movies. He is well-known for his work in science fiction and horror films. Brian Yuzna started his career as a producer for films like Re-Animator (1985) and From Beyond (1986). He then directed his first movie, Society (1989).
He also helped write the popular comedy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989). Brian Yuzna was the first American director to turn a Japanese comic book (called a manga) into a live-action movie. This movie was The Guyver (1991). He has also directed several movies based on the stories of writer H. P. Lovecraft. Brian Yuzna has helped many new directors get their first movies made.

Early life
Brian Yuzna was born in Manila, Philippines. His parents were American. He grew up in different countries like Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and Panama. In the 1960s, he moved to the United States and settled in Atlanta, Georgia. During the 1970s, Brian Yuzna worked as a carpenter and at a restaurant.
Career in film
Brian Yuzna started his career by producing horror films for his friend, director Stuart Gordon. These movies included Re-Animator (1985), From Beyond (1986), and Dolls (1987). He also helped write From Beyond. In the same year, Brian Yuzna co-wrote the comedy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
In 1989, he directed his first movie, Society. This film is about a wealthy community in Beverly Hills where some people are a different kind of species. They secretly feed on other social groups.
After this, Brian Yuzna directed several horror movie sequels. These included Bride of Re-Animator (1990), Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation (1990), and Return of the Living Dead 3 (1993). He then directed The Dentist (1996), a horror movie about a dentist in Los Angeles. Brian Yuzna also directed its sequel, The Dentist 2 (1998).
Fantastic Factory
Brian Yuzna became very popular in Europe. In the early 2000s, he started a film company called Fantastic Factory with Julio Fernández. This company was part of Filmax, a film company in Barcelona, Spain. His goal was to make "modestly budgeted" (not too expensive) horror, science fiction, and fantasy films. These movies were made in English for people all over the world. He also wanted to help new directors from different countries.
Brian Yuzna was working as a producer for a zombie movie called Worst Case Scenario. This movie was about a zombie invasion after a fictional soccer game. The project later changed and became the film Frankenstein's Army, which came out in 2013.
After a few years, Brian Yuzna returned to directing. He filmed Amphibious 3-D (2010), which starred Michael Paré.
Recent projects
In 2014, a special event was held in Hollywood to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Brian Yuzna was the special guest. In 2015, an event called "Brian Yuzna, A Retrospective" showed his work from the past 30 years. It was held at the Soho House in West Hollywood.
In 2016, a new movie directed by Yuzna was announced, called The Plastic Surgeon. By the end of 2023, he was working on writing a novel based on his film Society.
Awards and recognition

Personal life
Brian Yuzna is married to Cathy Cherry Yuzna. They have four children: Conan, Zoe, Noah, and Logan Yuzna.
