History of Brookmont
Long ago, before 1968, some places in the United States had rules that were not fair. These rules, called "racial covenants," meant that certain groups of people, like African Americans, were not allowed to buy or live in homes in specific areas. For example, a document from 1925 for a property in Brookmont said that it could not be sold or rented to "any negro or person of negro descent," except for servants.
However, things changed when the Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed. This important law made such unfair rules illegal. It helped make sure that everyone has a fair chance to live wherever they choose, without being judged by their race.

On its eastern and northern sides, Brookmont is next to Bethesda. To the northwest, it borders Cabin John. The village of Glen Echo is also close by, touching the northern part of Brookmont.
