Where is Brookshire Located?
Brookshire is found at 29°47′1″N 95°57′16″W / 29.78361°N 95.95444°W. It is about 34 miles west of downtown Houston. The city is also seven miles west of Katy. Brookshire is part of a busy area along Interstate 10.
How Brookshire Got Its Name
The city is named after Nathan Brookshire. He was a large landowner in the area. Nathan Brookshire was a captain in the Texian Army. He helped capture Bexar in 1835.
In 1893, John Kellner gave land and planned out the "Town of Kellner." Also in 1893, John Brookshire and O. C. Drew planned out the "Town of Brookshire." On May 24, 1946, these two areas officially became the "City of Brookshire."
