Trains like the Marquette Flyer carried people and mail. They traveled between Detroit and Ludington. Later, in the 1920s, the Pere Marquette railway joined the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway.

For a long time, Brown City was governed by a special rule called the "4th Class City Act." But in 1998, the people living in Brown City voted to change how their city was run.

In 1998, a company called the Huron and Eastern Railway bought a train line. This line went from Saginaw to Brown City. Part of the old line is still there, but it is not used for trains anymore.
